Elena Prola is an Italian photographer whose research focuses on the relationship between people and the contemporary landscape, explored through the social, cultural and emotional dynamics that take shape in everyday life.
Spaces become sites of observation and relationship through which she investigates how people are perceived and recognised within a social context.
Her current focus is on pre-adolescence and adolescence, stages of life in which already established social frameworks come into tension with experiences that continue to change more rapidly than those frameworks.
Photography becomes a tool for research before one of representation: a way of remaining with uncertainty, observing change as it unfolds, and conveying the complexity of experience without reducing it to fixed definitions. Her work thus seeks to open a space for reflection on how we construct images of others and how these images, in turn, contribute to shaping the ways we inhabit society.
